KS704 Ståbeform Brooch

Viking Age (800-1050 AD).
Casting mold for making round Fibulae (thin disc) in Borre Style, (after Borre in Southern Norway). The mold was found in the harbour of Hedeby in Schleswig-Holstein (then Haithabu, Denmark. Hedeby was a thriving Anglo-Saxon and later Viking centre of commerce on a par with Birka in Sweden), part of a collection of 42 other molds.

KS709 Tröllaskogur Brooch

Viking Age (800-1050 AD).
Fibula in Urnæs style found at Tröllaskogur in the southern part of Iceland. The many woodcarvings of Urnæs Church in southern Norway has given name to the style. The motive is a supple animal in a fight with two snakes. 
H: 40 mm.
