KS425 Torslunde Pendant
Vendel Period, Torslunde, Denmark.
"The boar crest, brightly
gleaming, stood over their helmets: superbly tempered, plated with glowing
gold, it guarded the lives of those grim warriors..." (Beowulf)
Similarities in both design and form of the helmets found at
Vendel
and
Valsgärde
in Sweden, and Sutton
Hoo in England, indicate
that that there was still a strong cultural connection between the two
societies at the time. It is possible that Swedish blacksmiths
were commissioned by an English King to make the Sutton Hoo helmet. Click

Includes chain.

KS426
Viking "Key to
Heaven" Pendant
Viking Age, 800-1050AD. Bronze key. As there is no indication of wear, the
key is thought to be a religious symbol only. It was hung round the neck
and was thought to make it possible for the wearer to open the gate to
heaven himself. Larger and more rustic keys however, have been more
heavily ornamented for common use. Includes chain.

KS470 Odin Pendant
Viking period, Uppland, Sweden. The original
is displayed at the Historiska Museet, Stockholm. In Germanic
mythology Odin (Engl. Woden, Ger. Wotan) was the Allfather of the Aesir
(Gods), and father to Thor. The figure bears striking similarities to the
figures on the Sutton
Hoo helmet, indicating that there was still a strong cultural
connection between the Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon cultures at the time.
Includes chain.

KS479 Åsum
Enggård
Pendant
Viking Age, 800-1050AD. The original is a gold-plated bronze disc found in
1988 at Åsum Enggård east of Odense. The motif is a so-called "gribedyr",
a four-footed fantasy animal of the Viking age. It appears in many guises,
sometimes embroiled in combat with snakes, sometimes on its own with
curled lips and back curls.
Includes chain.
