KS313 Stakkehoved Ring
Roman iron age (001-400 AD).
Found in gold at Stakkehoved, near Haderslev.
In Denmark 163 stray finds of gold spiral rings have been made. The thin
gold tread was wound around the finger, the wrist, pierced the ear or
wound around the ankle and pieces were broken off and given in exchange of
other goods. The gold was worn by rich men and thus a fashion developed
which could be copied in silver and bronze. Gradually the rings were
ornamented with distinctive motives, especially snake heads.
Comes
with brochure detailing the age and the place of origin of the original.
